OUR HISTORY
1915 Carroll worked for the Lee Forrest Garage, located in the 100 block of 1st Ave. No. across 2nd street from the Post Office, part-time two winters washing and maintaining cars.
1916 Pierse Auto was the first franchised Chevrolet and Oakland (later renamed Pontiac) dealership in Great Falls. Carroll was bookkeeper, stenographer, janitor, floor man, window washer, car washer, assistant in the parts department, and helped the mechanics unload and assemble new cars. This dealership was first located on the northeast corner of 1st Ave. No. and 3rd St. and then established the Standard Garage in the Silver State Building on the southwest corner of 6th Street and 1st Ave. North.
1920 Oscar Johnson and Ed Kliese acquired the franchise and moved into the City Garage located on First Avenue South between 4th and 5th Streets where the Sears Parking Ramp is. The franchise was sold to Emmett Jordan and Doc Taylor, a dealership located in the 700 block of Central Avenue. Carroll was the parts manager.
1928 Doc Taylor became the sole dealer and built his dealership at 8th Street and Central, now part of the Bennett Motors block. Carroll was both parts and sales manager.
1929 Carroll Bennett became the Nash Dealer with Ed Kliese. The dealership was located at 404-406 lst Ave. So in the Falls Hotel Building. He became the sole dealer in 1931.
1939 Carroll became the Pontiac distributor for Montana and northern Wyoming. When General Motors resumed production after the Second World War in 1946, he was the dealer for Great Falls.
1948 Carroll constructed the building on the corner of 9th Street and 1st Ave. So.
1955 Dick returned from the Army and eventually became sales manager, general manager.
1961 Dick became the Pontiac dealer and added first the GMC franchise in 1948 and then the Subaru franchise in 1972.
1972 Bennett Motors purchased the building at 8th and Central and remodeled it as a "Car Port"--a covered indoor used car facility. This was remodeled to its current appearance in 1992.
1985 Cari began work at Bennett Motors.
1986 The building at 9th and Central was purchased and remodeled as a Subaru showroom and for used car sales.
1989 This year saw an extensive remodeling of the 1948 building and the purchase of the lots across 1st Ave. So.
1991 Bennett Motors added the Quality Lube and Car Wash.
1994 Bennett Motors adds the Buick franchise and Cari become the dealer.
1997 9th and Central became the Subaru sales lot.
1998 Bennett Motors purchased the Budget Rent a Car franchise.
